Commonly Asked Questions
What are your qualifications to work with me?
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC-16029) in the state of Arizona and I hold a Masters’ Degree in Mental Health Counseling. I have over 10 years of clinical experience and have extensive experience working with folks struggling with anxiety. Because folks with anxiety often struggle with food/body image I pursued a year-long specialty training in eating disorder treatment that meets the educational requirements of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Certification. I am also an EMDR trained therapist. I have extensive experience working with folks struggling with anxiety & the trauma/painful memories and body image/food concerns that often go with anxiety. I have worked in specialized residential and intensive outpatient eating disorder programs as well as private practice settings with folks struggling with anxiety, trauma, and eating disorders.
How can you help me?
On a personal level, I also know what it is like to struggle with anxiety. I know how scary and vulnerable it can feel to share your story or consider changing your behaviors. However, I can tell you from my own experience that recovery is possible.
I believe that you can make a full recovery. I do not believe you have to be anxious for the rest of your life. As a therapist, I have specialized training to understand and treat anxiety, trauma & eating disorders. Often anxiety can impact our relationship with our body, or you may have painful past memories that cause you to be anxious. For other folks feelings of anxiety seem to come from nowhere. Whatever is causing your anxiety I believe I can teach you the skills to learn to manage, reduce and eliminate your anxiety. I truly believe you don’t have to miss out on social events or spend your life worrying about what other people think of you. I have walked many people through the process of healing their anxiety & I would love to help you regain your self-confidence and get rid of your anxiety once and for all!
What are your counseling specialties?
I specialize in anxiety but I have found that many folks struggling with anxiety also struggle with their body image/relationship with food & past traumatic or painful memories. I have extensive experience working with people with eating disorder/body image concerns as well as trauma and I am an EMDR trained therapist.
I’m nervous to start counseling. What should I expect?
It’s completely normal to be nervous. If you’d like to work with me we can do a 10 minute phone consultation before we meet to go over any questions you might have and make sure you feel comfortable with me. Our first session will be about getting to know each other-I’ll ask you about yourself and what you brought into counseling. You can also ask me any questions you may have. As our work together continues, we’ll create goals we’d like to work on. Counseling is a little bit like having a professional friend/coach. I am here to support you but also challenge you to grow and think about things in a new way.
